On Monday, the Police Commission voted to nominate deputy police chief Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet as the fresh head of the Royal Thai Police (RTP).

The commission’s ex-officio president, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, presided over the gathering at which the decision was taken.

Ms. Paetongtarn reserved her straight as president of the committee, but all eight members of the committee voted unanimously in favor of Pol Gen Kitrat’s visit as the new national authorities chief.

Out of the candidates deemed to be the government’s 15th federal police commander, Pol Gen Kitrat, who is the most senior, will leave in two decades.

Given his history and rank, he was avowed to become the speaking federal police chief on October 1 and was widely anticipated to do so.

Prior to this, he has previously been the acting acting federal police commander, most recently when the two men, former federal police captain Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol and his assistant, Pol Gen Surachate” Big Joke” Hakparn, got into a fight.

Pol Gen Surachate reported him to the National Anti-Corruption Commission after he clashed with Pol Gen Torsak and decided to let him leave the army.

Pol Gen Surachate claimed that Section 157 of the Criminal Code was violated when Pol Gen Kitrat approved his expulsion.

Pol Gen Kitrat, however, rejected the incident, saying he was merely following existing laws and regulations.

Prior to enrolling in the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School in its 25th Group, Pol Gen Kitrat received his degree from Benjamarachutit Ratchaburi School. He then received his degree from the Royal Police Cadet Academy in its 41st Group.

He became the deputy chief of the legal research unit at the Rayong-based Muang district police station after earning his degree.

He rose up the ranks and eventually took over as an executive at the RTP’s office, where he primarily concentrated on intelligence-related tasks.

Prior to being appointed deputy federal police chief, Pol Gen Kitrat previously held the position of assistant federal police chief.

Ms. Paetongtarn used the opportunity to explain the administration’s efforts to combat both medication trafficking and fraud gangs before the committee voted on the proposed visit of Pol Gen Kitrat.
