Bangkok’s Sustainability Expo ends with pledge to mirror UN’s Decade of Action

Delegates and speakers in Bangkok agreed on Sunday as the 2018 edition of the Sustainability Expo came to an end and agreed that it would continue until 2030 as a platform to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ) and develop new sustainability models.

The 10-day event, which is the brainchild of Thai Beverage Plc and partners, has been held at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center ( QSNCC ) for five consecutive years to raise public awareness of living sustainably.

Thai Beverage CEO and President Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi emphasised during his speech in the” SX Launching Forward: SX2025″ program that sustainability is one’s role. He claimed that the way the current technology uses resources will have an effect on generations to come. This is obvious in the business industry, where source usage has increased excessively and has transformed community into a consumerist society.

Therefore, he argued that the business community has consider how to collaborate with community to protect resources for the upcoming era. Accepting the sufficient business philosophy is one way to accomplish this.

In contrast, he emphasised that the younger generation has a significant role to play in promoting conservation. Those who attended SX2024 did finally had been inspired by the tips presented in the” Better Me”,” Better Living”,” Better Community”, and” Better World” shows at the exhibition. He said that living responsibly starts with oneself and positively affects the local community and the world as a whole. This concept was intended for the adolescent.

He said following week’s event will be held from Sept 26 to Oct 5 at QSNCC.

A 2020-2030 Decade of Action is being announced by the UN, calling on all stakeholders to work together to achieve their Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ) by 2030. He added that the fair may continue to be a significant source of information about raising awareness and living sustainably until at least 2030.

Tongjai Thanachanan, Chief of Sustainability and Strategy of Thai Beverage, said that this week’s fair had 740, 423 guests both offline and online, exceeding the goal of 500, 000 customers.

This week’s earnings for the Market Place part was 17.09 million ringgit, while the Food Festival’s was 23.7 million baht.

Also, due to the ongoing disaster in the northwestern region, the fair staged a two-day charity concert and raised 4.8 million ringgit to help the victims.

” Over the past five decades, there have been 1, 182, 954 accumulated readers, who have helped the fair to lift a total of 106 million baht for the areas who participated”, she added.
