There are no documented cases and no punishment platform for Part 165 because it is like a uncommon crime.
In sentencing claims, Mr Tai argued that Iswaran was “more than a quiet accept of products”.  ,
He claimed that the purpose of the Part 165 crime is to criminalize a public servant who “makes controversial his devotion to the authorities in respect of the business dealings in question” by obtaining or accepting gifts.
When Iswaran was the most senior federal agent negotiating with SGP on business matters relating to F1, Mr. Tai claimed that his behavior” considerably compromised his position as chief negotiator for the authorities.”
Although he acknowledges that “ignorance of the law is no pardon,” Mr. Singh claimed that Iswaran did not actively look into the items that were given to him and that he had no idea about Part 165 at the time.
He said” the sheer dint of the trial” against Iswaran was” the most powerful message that can be sent”.
The Singapore Government has made it evident that a public servant who accepts donations and the items required by Section 165 may be prosecuted, according to Mr. Singh.
Explaining some of Iswaran’s deeds, he said Mr Ong told Iswaran in December 2022 during the World Cup that Mr Hassan Al-Thawadi, the president of the World Cup Organising Committee, had invited Mr Ong to see the quarter-final games in Doha.
Iswaran understood that Mr. Ong wanted to invite him to visit him, and he accepted because he saw him as a friend and guest.
Iswaran also saw the journey as an option for them to know how a city like Doha organized a global event, according to Mr. Singh.
Mr. Singh claimed that Iswaran had asked him for his regular vendor so he could purchase the liquor himself, but that Mr. Lum gave it to him along with a sample of red wine.
The Brompton vehicle Mr Lum gave Iswaran was given to him on the ex-minister’s 60th day as a surprise, said the lawyer.
According to Mr. Singh, some of the F1 reservations Iswaran received were pleasant and not intended for sale in the first place. Neither Mr. Ong nor the Singapore GP suffered any harm, Mr. Singh claimed.
He also gave the cards to local volunteers and a cause that his wife was a part of, according to Mr. Singh.
