On suspicion of public fraud, computer crime, and false advertising, police in Bangkok have detained the couple Mae Tuck and Pa Bia, who are known as the sellers of allegedly impure gold amulets.
Pol Maj Gen Withaya Sriprasertparp, commander of consumer protection police, said the arrest happened at the couple’s House No. 72 on Ram Intra 65 Road in Bang Khen district, Bangkok, on Monday.
The suspects are Kornkanok Suwannabut, 37, aka Mae Tuck and her husband Kanpon Rueang-aram, 35, aka Pa Bia. They were wanted under the Monday Criminal Court’s arrest warrants.
The couple were accused of committing public fraud, using fake information into computers that could damage people, using misleading messages in advertisements that targeted consumers, creating mistrust of the quantity, quality, and other important qualifications of goods and services, and using labels that could cause misinterpretation.
The couple was questioned by police at the Consumer Protection Police Division.
Another group of consumer protection officers searched the couple’s K2N gold store on Hathairat Road in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district, among other things, after their arrest.
Ms. Kornkanok and her husband were accused of selling jewelry with less gold content than the media had alleged during live-streaming social media live events.
Their company made headlines when many customers complained that they could n’t sell the goods at other gold stores because other gold traders were unsure of the products ‘ real gold content.
The Anti-Money Laundering Office announced recently that it would look into the couple’s unusually wealthy status.
