Circle Line shutdown on Sep 17: Maintenance team did not follow protocol, says SMRT

SEP 18 Affair

The Sep 18 affair was caused by a fire. At about 8pm on Sep 18, an SMRT team&nbsp, detected the flames in a TSSS bathroom at&nbsp, Kim Chuan Depot.

In reaction, the global crisis closure program -&nbsp, a built-in health feature- was &nbsp, immediately activated, triggering a line-wide energy shutdown.

The blaze was &nbsp, destroyed and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the place was safe.

” Grip power was restored within 10 minutes, and complete train service resumed at 8.15pm”, SMRT said.

LTA, SMRT, and OEM designers worked through the night to identify the produce, implement corrective actions, and do practical tests, including check runs.

The&nbsp, goal was to ensure safe and easy train businesses, especially during the F1 time, SMRT said.

The Circle Series power network has since been disconnected from the broken TSSS bathroom at Kim Chuan Depot.

Operational power has been moved to a different site’s back operations control center.

SMRT said the cause of the fire is still under inspection.

The SMRT executive team is also working with LTA to evaluate the TSSS and international emergency closure systems ‘ general designs, according to SMRT.

It added that structure improvements will be made, including improvements to the Circle Line’s signal and PA techniques, as well as fail-safe and fail-soft functions.

The purchasing of a alternative TSSS desk, with increased characteristics, is being expedited, SMRT said.
