Malaysian soldier fatally shot by alleged poacher during training exercise in Sarawak described as independent, resilient

A relative of a Malay soldier who died after being apparently shot by a member of the public during a coaching practice in Sarawak has been described as an “independent and tenacious people” who was also a great friend and brother.

The soldier, identified as Corporal Petrus Linggi Liman, was shot in the head on Monday ( Sep 23 ), and authorities are still looking for the unidentified suspect.

Nearby media had reported that the 28-year-old was reportedly shot by a poacher.

Desmond Leo Naga Janting, Mr. Petrus ‘ niece, claimed their previous encounter at their homestead was last year during the Gawai Dayak event.

A traditional holiday and produce celebration that takes place on Jun 1 each year is the Gawai Dayak.

Mr. Desmond said,” I really did n’t expect that he would leave us just that,” adding that his last communication with his cousin was on July 18.

” I did n’t know that this would be the last time I spoke with him,” he said.

A member of the 9th Brigade in Sibu was shot dead in an early night affair that day while the Malaysian Army Command Public Relations Cell confirmed in a statement on Sep 23 that a member of the order had been receiving training.

The staff was given first aid at the location of the event, Bernama reported, before being rushed to the Song Health Clinic and consequently, the Kapit Hospital for additional care.

A policeman report was filed over the event and he was taken to the hospital at 7.43am for his death. &nbsp,

From the time they separated to follow their jobs, Mr. Desmond claimed the two of them had been like sons and close friends since they were young.

He continued,” I’m heartbroken that I ca n’t go back to my parents ‘ longhouse to pay my last respects to my cousin.”

Additionally, Mr Desmond said that Mr Petrus was the only boy in his home.

” The dying had four younger sisters and an elder girl.” So… he was the only person who was the wish of the home”, Mr Desmond said.

He was polite, but he had a good sense of humor. He had an impartial and tenacious personality that I valued. That’s why he was able to join the infantry”.

The Malaysian Army claimed that Mr. Petrus and his battalion were resting when they audibled a bicycle roaring through a path close to their location. &nbsp,

Then they heard what appeared to be a bullet noise, and a perimeter examination was carried out in the aftermath that showed them tending to an injured Mr. Petrus. &nbsp,

Malaysia’s Defense Minister Khaled Nordin expressed his condolences to Mr. Petrus’s community on September 24. &nbsp,
