Sri Lanka’s new president sworn in, says no magic solution to crisis

” Job WITH OTHER NATIONS”

Addressing issues about the JVP’s traditional anti-West and anti-India position, Dissanayaka said he wanted global support to restore the market.

” We are certainly a country that should be isolated”, he said, as Colombo-based officials watched from the ledge of the national business.

” We intend to work with other countries to gain our country, regardless of the energy imbalances in the world.”

India and China, which are both Sri Lanka’s biggest ally and largest bilateral bank, are tasked with securing control of the island nation, which is strategically located along the east-west coast.

Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, expressed his excitement about” strengthening our varied assistance for the benefit of our individuals and the whole region” in a statement released by the American government.

Xi Jinping, the president of China, expressed his desire to work with the new leader to “promote our traditional friendship ( and ) strengthen our mutual political trust.”

Tradition OF VIOLENCE

Dissanayaka’s party led two rebellions in the 1970s and 1980s that left more than 80, 000 persons dying before renouncing crime.

In the decades since, it had been a marginal player in Sri Lankan politics, winning only 4 % of the vote in the most recent legislative elections in 2020.

But Sri Lanka’s problems proved an option for Dissanayaka, who saw his popularity surge after pledging to alter the region’s” corrupt” social society.

Dissanayaka, a JVP student leader at the time of the following rebellion, has described how one of his professors sheltered him from government-backed death teams that murdered party activists.

Che Guevara, a well-known Communist revolution, is one of his heroes, he says.

Dissanayaka becomes the first leader of the nation to receive less than 50 % of the popular vote. He won the election with just over 42 %, which is the lowest percentage since 1988 when presidential elections first started.

” I am thoroughly conscious of the structure and size of the mission I received”, he said. It is my duty to win the support and respect of those who have not cast their ballots or placed their trust in me.
