China halts foreign adoptions of its children

Beijing: The Chinese government announced on Thursday ( Sep. 5 ) that it will no longer permit foreigners to adopt its children.

According to foreign government spokesman Mao Ning, the only exceptions will be for blood friends who adopt children or stepchildren.

The Taiwanese government has modified its adoption policy abroad.

China does not give children worldwide for implementation, she said, excluding the adoption of children and stepchildren from security relatives by the same technology or by foreigners coming to China within three generations.

The spokesperson’s statement was not supported by any other explanations aside from the statement that it was “in line with the spirit of important international norms.”

We thank foreign governments and people who wish to acquire Chinese youngsters for love and kindness, she continued.

Over the years, many foreigners have taken their babies from China, making trips to the state to pick them up, and moving them to a new country abroad.

China suspended foreign births during the COVID-19 crisis.

The US State Department stated in its most recent annual report on adoptions that the government eventually resumed surrogacy for kids who had received go authorizations prior to the suspension in 2020.

The State Department reported that a US embassy issued 16 adoption visa for Chinese people in the 12-month period from October 2022 to September 2023, the first in more than two decades.

If any additional permits had been issued since therefore, it was unclear.
