Man charged with attempting to rob teenager of S$32,000 over fake cryptocurrency deal

SINGAPORE: A 29-year-old man was charged on Thursday ( Sep 5 ) with attempting to rob a 19-year-old of S$ 32, 000 ( US$ 24, 500 ) over a fake cryptocurrency deal.

The police were alerted at about 7.55pm on Aug 29 to a&nbsp, assault along Hougang Street 51.

The teen had been contacted by Benedict Yee Hong Fai, a 29-year-old man, to meet up with him on Telegram and exchange bitcoin for cash, according to preliminary investigations.

The package amounted to about S$$ 32, 000.

Eventually, it was discovered that Yee had reportedly planned for two other men to abuse the girl with the intention of taking his income and that this deal was apparently a sham, according to the police.

” While the girl was waiting, he was confronted by the two people and was assaulted by one of them”, said the policeman.

With his wealth, the victim was able to escape. He eventually shared an Instagram accounts detailing the event.

Between August 30 and September 3, the police obtained the names of the three people and made their arrests. &nbsp,

On Thursday, Yee was charged with attempting to rob a vehicle while hurting. &nbsp,

If convicted, he could be jailed for between five and 20 times. Additionally, the crime involves at least 12 wood stroke. &nbsp,
