Weather experts warn of heavy storms over the weekend in the North and Northeast as Typhoon Yagi is expected to make its way up to higher Vietnam on Friday or Saturday.

Thanasit Iam-ananchai, acting director-general of the Meteorological Department, said on Thursday that the tornado was moving quietly west from the lower South China Sea.

The storm did go Hainan and create landfall in northern Vietnam by Friday or Saturday before slowly weakening as it winds near its center, which will reach 185 kilometers per hour.

In the North and the lower Northeast on Saturday and Sunday, big rain and thunderstorms are forecast as a result.

On Thursday and Friday, Mr. Thanasit warned residents of possible flash floods and runoffs as a result of the monsoon’s forecast for parts of the East and the eastern coastline of the South.

Up until Sunday, smaller boats are advised to stay offshore along the Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf of Thailand.
