Tan Cheng Bock ‘recovering well’ after surgery on lung

SINGAPORE: Progress Singapore Party (PSP) founder Tan Cheng Bock uncovered on Saturday (Jul 30) that he experienced surgery on his lung, adding that he is definitely recovering well in hospital.

“Recently after undergoing some medical examinations, doctors advised that I take the precautionary phase of removing a small lesion on our right lung, inch Dr Tan stated in a Facebook article.  

This individual was admitted to  the National University or college Hospital (NUH) on Friday for the surgical procedure.

“The operation was successful, We are recovering well and I expect to be discharged in about a 7 days, ” Dr Suntan said, thanking physicians and nurses with NUH.

“And I’m looking forward to becoming up and about once again and continuing the walkabouts and other activities! ”

Doctor Tan, a former  People’s Action Celebration (PAP) Member of Parliament,   founded the PSP in 2019 before the 2020 General Election.

Because election, he contested West Coast GRC as part of a five-member PSP team that included  Mister Jeffrey Khoo, Microsoft Hazel Poa, Mister Leong Mun Wai and Mr Nadarajah Loganathan.

Doctor Tan was, pertaining to 26 years, the MP for the Ayer Rajah ward, which became part of West Coast GRC.

His team completed with 48. 31 per cent of the votes within West Coast GRC   in the last General Election,   reducing the PAP’s vote share through 78. 75 % in 2015 in order to 51. 69 percent in 2020.  

It was one of the closest battles of the 2020 General Selection. The PAP’s West Coast team had been made up of  Mister S Iswaran, who was then Minister pertaining to Communications and Info, Mr Desmond Shelter, who was Minister pertaining to Social and Family members Development, Ms Foo Mee Har, Mr Ang Wei Neng and new face Ms Rachel Ong.

PSP’s Mr Leong and Ms Poa became Non-Constituency Users of Parliament (NCMP) due to the election outcome.  

Underneath the NCMP scheme, losing opposition candidates using the highest percentage of votes will be provided seats in Parliament if the number of elected opposition members falls short of 12.

In the case of the 2020 General Election, 2 NCMP seats were offered to PSP after the Workers’ Party (WP) won 10 seats at the polls.

In March 2022, the PSP declared that it has tightened its choice process for  cadres   because it steps up efforts to win more seats  in Parliament at  the country’s following general election.

“While PSP at first had an open doorway policy on account when it was established on Mar 28, 2019, the party’s current policy is to have people sign up for first as volunteers and then later, if the PSP deems them suitable, to become people of the party, inch PSP secretary-general Francis Yuen said within March.
