Landslide-hit Phuket enters rehab stage after 13 bodies found

PHUKET: Following the discovery of all 13 of the body of the missing, authorities in the southern holiday island began rehabilitation in the Muang district’s landslide-hit areas.

After the body of the last three lacking people were discovered and the death toll totaled 13, Phuket government Sophon Suwannarat stopped the hunt for victims amid the mud on Saturday evening. All of the employees or readers to Phuket were from abroad.

The landslide hit three sub-districts ( tambon ) in Muang district of Phuket: tambon Chalong, tambon Karon and tambon Rawai. The crisis affected 209 communities in nine settlements. Apart from the deceased, the crisis even injured 19 people, three of whom remained at clinic on Sunday.

Sophon Thongsai, Phuket’s director of disaster prevention and reduction, stated that the maintenance of public utilities and homes had begun on Sunday to allow evacuees to return to their homes as soon as possible.

Danger keeps

Phuket experienced large storms starting late on Thursday night. Around 5am on Friday, the flood began at the end of Soi Patak 2 Road behind Wat Kata. It hit a beach resort, houses and laborers ‘ living rooms.
