Indonesia election body gets approval to issue new rules in line with protesters’ demands

The policy change opens the door for Prabowo’s presidential vote rival Anies Baswedan to get nominated for Jakarta governor, a post he held from 2017 to 2022, but also means Jokowi’s 29-year-old son Kaesang Pangarep may work in local polls.

The political commission overseeing election problems held a hearing with the election system on Sunday to get the politicians ‘ approval before issuing the new regulations.

Supratman Andi Agtas, the government’s attorney, stated at the same hearing that the government would help speed up the process for issuing the new laws.

The labor group is scheduled to rally once more on Sunday and demand that the election system problem the new rules right away.

After a decade in command, Jokowi’s recognition and outsized influence had a major impact on Prabowo’s victory in February’s poll, which was widely accepted as a quid-pro-quo to ensure the cheerful head maintains a political interest long after he leaves office.
