In Bannang Sata region of this southern border state late on Wednesday night, two edible sellers were shot dead by armed men.
The attack occurred around 10pm at a durian stall near a kubo ( a Muslim cemetery ) in Sai Kaew village, Moo 3, in tambon Taling Chan, said Pol Maj Pratchaya Hethak, the investigation chief at Bannang Sata station.
A preliminary analysis revealed that at least 10 people called out to the sellers as they walked past the barn from a course leading to a river. When the barn users emerged, the trained men opened fire, killing them immediately.
The subjects were identified as Muelee Mani, a native of Bannang Sata, and Prakit Klomsa-ard from the eastern state of Chanthaburi.
Before fleeing, the intruders stole a firearm and a two-baht silver collar from Prakit. Before fleeing, one intruder also placed a suspicious object inside a local car.
On Thursday, police and a village security team surrounded the area and waited for the arrival of explosive ordnance disposal ( EOD ) and forensic officers to examine the scene thoroughly. Due to concerns that the assailants might entice them into an ambush, officials opted not to inspect the page at night.
