The Appeal Court upheld the two-year prison sentence handed down to a woman campaigner who was found guilty of dressing up and acting like the Queen at a 2020 show.

The judge refused to halt the jail sentence, and even upheld a 1, 000 ringgit fine.

At the Bangkok South Criminal Court on Monday, the Appeal Court’s decision was made public.

In a show calling for transformation of the royal institution in Bangkok’s Silom area in October 2020, the accused, Jatuporn Sae Ung, 25, donned clothing that resembled the Queen.

The defendant continued shaking hands with protesters who were calling her the wife and yelling” Long live!” in a standard Thai-style clothing, according to the court. The plaintiff had admitted to acting in imitation of the Queen.

The court of first instance immediately sentenced Jatuporn to a three-year sentence and imposed a 1,500 baht fine. Because she cooperated during the  investigation, the jury reduced the sentence to two years in prison and the good to 5,000 ringgit.

The Appeal Court upheld the decision.

In a mock fashion show organized by the anti-government Ratsadon group on October 29, 2020, Jatuporn, a member of the Buri Ram Plod Ak ( Free Buri Ram ), was charged with breaking Section 112 of the Criminal Code, known as the lese majeste law.
