Raygun: Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn calls Olympic performance backlash “devastating”

American dancer Rachael Gunn claims the criticism of her Olympic effectiveness has been “devastating.”

Gunn, who goes by the name B-girl Raygun, has been the theme of a social media surprise since making her Paris Games debut next month.

A plea calling for an explanation from Gunn, 36, as well as from Australia’s Olympic chef de mission Anna Meares, now has more than 54, 000 signatures.

Gunn claimed in a video on Instagram that she had no idea that her presence had “open the door to so much hate.”

On Thursday, Australian Olympic Committee ( AOC ) chief executive Matt Carroll said the petition had” stirred up public hatred without any factual basis”, adding it was “vexatious, misleading and bullying”.

However, according to the petition, Gunn and monitor cyclist Meares, who is a two-time Olympic champion, may apologize for “tentating to tease the people and undermining the efforts of legitimate athletes.”

After thanking her followers, Gunn said:” I really appreciated the enthusiasm and I’m happy I was able to provide some pleasure into your life- that’s what I hoped.

” Well, I went out there and I had excitement- I did take it very seriously. I put my best foot forward while trying to prepare for the Olympics and gave it my all. Truly.

” And I’m honoured to have been a part of the American Olympic team, to be a part of breaking’s Olympic comeback”.

Gunn, a college professor from Sydney, lost all three of her round-robin wars by a combined score of 54-0.

Nevertheless, she hit again, saying:” Bit of a fun fact for you: there are actually no items in breaking.
