US urges calm in Bangladesh, salutes army role

Hasina has attempted to halt countrywide demonstrations against her state since early July, but she fled after nearly 100 people were killed on Sunday.

Miller claimed that the US had been notified of reports that the army had refused to impose more restrictions on student-led presentations.

” If it is correct in reality that the military resisted calls to break down on constitutional protesters, that would be a good development”, he said.

He urged that any change get carried out in accordance with Bangladesh’s rules and welcomed the news of an interim government.

Asked if the government should choose the second command, Miller said,” We want to see the Bangladeshi folks decide the future Bangladeshi state”.

He added that the reviews of human rights violations, deaths, and injury over the weekend and past days, both in the United States, were “deeply saddened.”

According to Miller,” It is crucial that we conduct thorough and truthful studies to hold accountable for these deaths.”
