Singapore swimmer Gan Ching Hwee clocks second national record at Paris Olympics

PARIS: Swimmer Gan Ching Hwee’s stunning showing at the Paris Olympics continued on Friday (Aug 2) as she clocked another national record.

Competing in the women’s 800m freestyle at the Paris La Defense arena, the Singaporean smashed her personal best and national record of 8:34.01 by almost two seconds with a time of 8:32.37.

Gan finished seventh in her heat, and 11th overall out of 16 swimmers.

This is her second national record of the Olympics after setting one in the 1500m freestyle on Tuesday.

She had only last month been confirmed to compete at the Games, having made the Olympics Consideration Time, also known as the “B” cut, in the 1,500m event. Gan was selected to replace Quah Ting Wen in the relay.
