Rogue wave drags nearly 20 boats into canal in Trat

A large wave dragged roughly 20 boats into a river in Trat province on Friday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., residents of the tambon Helmet Lek neighborhood in Khlong Yai area called the local authorities for assistance after a strong influx of more than two meters washed away 15 long-tail vessels and three larger angling vessels in the Ban Khlong Makham canal.

To help those affected, police and military officers were dispatched. The boats were retrieved by the combined force after about two hours, the majority of which suffered gentle damage and abandoned equipment.

Three fishing vessels were dragged away by a rogue flood after it appeared out of the river, which was then collided with several smaller vessels.

When the ships crashed into its supports, an adjacent gate also suffered damage.

Cherdsak Chumnaseow, city chief for Khlong Yai, stated on Saturday that an analysis of all problems is being conducted so that additional support can be provided.
