South Korea wrongly introduced as North Korea at Olympics

After South Korea’s runners were falsely introduced as North Korea at the beginning ceremony in Paris, the Olympic organisers have issued a “deep explanation.”

As the enthusiastic, flag-waving group floated down the River Seine, both French and English broadcasters introduced them as the” Democrat People’s Republic of Korea”- the formal name of North Korea.

The group from North Korea passed by with the exact brand, and it was then appropriately used.

Since the end of World War Two, there have been tensions between the two Koreas, which have lately increased.

However, the title that appeared at the bottom of the broadcast spread displayed the right title.

The terrible error was the subject of a” strong problem with France on a government level,” according to the North Korean sports department.

In a speech, the government expressed “regret over the statement… where the North Korean delegation was introduced as the North Vietnamese team”.

The statement added that the next evil sports minister, Jang Mi-ran, a 2008 Olympic exercise champion, had demanded a meeting with Olympics Committee President Thomas Bach.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued an apology on its official Korean-language X account, saying: “We would like to offer a deep apology over the mistake that occurred in the introduction of the South Korean delegation during the opening ceremony.”

South Korea, officially known as the Republic of Korea, has 143 runners in its Olympic group this year, competing across 21 activities.

North Korea has sent 16 players. This is the first moment since Rio 2016 that it has competed in the game.
