SINGAPORE:  , The Football Association of Singapore’s ( FAS ) general secretary Yazeen Buhari will step down from his post at the end of September after six years in the top post.
The search for his successor has also begun, said FAS in a statement on Friday ( Jul 5 ) announcing his resignation.
” It has been a pleasure to reins this institution, given the magnitude and significance that this position holds. But after being away from the family for seven years, I have made the difficult decision to keep the organisation”, said Yazeen.
” I think it’s also the proper time for the administration to modify its command,” he said.
Yazeen, 46, rose through divisions at FAS over two tours.  ,
He previously served as the general manager of Singapore Athletics and the assistant director of Sport Singapore ( SportSG), before leaving in late 2016 to join the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC).
But after less than a month at AFC, where , he led its planning and strategy office, he returned to Singapore sports as FAS deputy public minister.
It marked the first significant rent by the then-new FAS government, whose office messengers were chosen in April 2017.
He began taking on the responsibilities of acting general director at the beginning of 2018, and he was given a nine-month contract.  ,
FAS acknowledged Yazeen’s contribution to a number of major developments in Singapore sports in its statement. These include Unleash the Roar! the Video Assistant Referee (VAR ) system in the Singapore Premier League was introduced in 2021, followed by its implementation in 2023.
Said Yazeen, a previous referee:” There are many activities that have started to take shape in the past two years, and with the aid shown by all participants, I am confident these programs will go on to achieve their desired outcomes”.
Bernard Tan, leader of FAS, expressed his gratitude to the retiring general secretary, who will step down from his position on September 30.
Tan stated:” His withdrawal is a great loss for Singapore football because he has been a devoted head within the organization.”
After seven times with the FAS, we esteem his need to prioritize his family, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
