Young mother who brought toddlers to supermarket to steal milk powder gets fine

A court in Singapore on Thursday ( Jun 13 ) handed down a fine of S$ 3,500 ( US$$ 2,600 ) to a young mother who took her two toddlers to a supermarket to steal milk powder.

Lorraine Chan Chu Yi, a 26- year- ancient Singaporean, pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud, with a second charge taken into consideration.

The prosecutor was informed that Chan took her two and three-year-old children to a Sheng Siong mall in Bukit Batok on Jun 4, 2013.

She stashed&nbsp, two bottles of Enfamil milk powder fair S$ 270.70 in their bicycle and left without paying.

Three days later, Chan headed to another retailer – the Giant shop at the IMM Building –&nbsp, with her father, 26- yr- old Singaporean Lim Quickly Leong.

The couple went to the butter powder part of the mall with three storage containers in an effort to take more milk powder.

After that, they placed 12 bottles of Enfamil milk flour worth S$ 1, 565.40 in the three containers before picking up additional foods.

After that, they scanned and paid for the remaining items at a self-service shop in the mall.

However, they did not pay for the cheese flour, which they kept concealed in the boxes.

They left the store unharmed, and Lim sold all 12 containers to a Carousell customer for S$ 1, 170.

During property inspections and according to police reports, the incidents were found. The cheese powder was never recovered, but Chan made full compensation.

Lim was given an 11-month prison term next month for the cheese powder theft as well as for other crimes including cheating.

Chan was wanted without prison time by the trial.

HUSBAND WAS MASTERMIND: Army

Chan was represented by Ms Victoria Tay from the Public Defender’s Office, who sought a good for her customer.

Mr Tay noted that Chan’s father was the architect who planned the incidents, with Chan agreeing.

The attorney added that Chan, despite her financial troubles, had paid full compensation.

The crimes were committed “due to economic desperation” Chan found herself in, and not out of ambition, said Ms Tay.

” Safe to say, she has reflected on the entire process. She just wants a good word so that she can leave her two young children at home, according to the attorney.

Chan was able to give her entire excellent.
