Chaiya Huaihongthong, the chief of the national park, said on Thursday that will rangers found the first carcass, about three in order to five years old, floating between rocks on the waterfall.
“Based on our initial findings, we think it came with its herd and there was a flash flood after torrential rain three days ago. The elephant may have dropped directly into the waterfall, or into a flow and then its body was swept in to the waterfall, ” this individual said.
He said the incident likely happened on Tuesday or even Wednesday. However , because of the strong current, the park could not yet remove the carcass from the scene.
Later on, the rangers found another carcass, this time an adult hippo, he said, including officials have however to determine whether the 2 elephants were related.
In order to minimise the risk to tourists during the lengthy holiday this weekend, the park has closed off entry to the waterfall, based on Mr Chaiya.
He said officials will include more precautionary actions in the park, which usually now has concrete poles lined up to stop large animals from being swept aside.
“We will add more concrete poles to close some spaces and we’ll have got rangers standing by on rainy days, ” he said.
