SINGAPORE: After 16 guests fell ill, the meal service at the Pan Pacific Hotel’s Edge buffet cafe was suspended.
The Ministry of Health ( MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency ( SFA ) said on Saturday ( May 25 ) that they are investigating six incidents of gastroenteritis. Between May 2 and May 18, a total of 16 citizens ate meals prepared by the restaurant.
” Those affected either sought inpatient care or self-medicated. Nothing were hospitalised”, said the authorities.
The restaurant had initially taken action after hearing from customers who were experiencing diarrhea symptoms and had begun taking steps like conducting wellness checks on food handlers and performing deep cleaning of the premises.
Due to the possibility of the disease being transmitted persistently, SFA has decided to suspend Edge’s foods business operations until May 24.
” The licensee is required to clear and sanitise the premises, including equipment and utensils, and deal all available- to- consume food and perishable food items”, said MOH and SFA in a mutual media release.
Before they can begin labor, all food operators working on the grounds must reapply, move the Food Safety Course Level 1 and have their blood tested negative for related diseases.
Before they can begin employment, the appointed Food Hygiene Officer may reapply and pass the Level 3 Food Safety Course.
An internet from Pan Pacific Dining Privileges was posted online that a picture of the Edge restaurant showing “unexpected conditions” was visible. It even apologised for any trouble.
” Food security is a shared responsibility. SFA would like to inform food producers to always follow good food and personal hygiene guidelines, the organization said.
” SFA did not hesitate to vigorously pursue any charges against anyone who is found to be in breach of the Environmental Public Health Act.”
