NDP 2024: Flying of kites and drones forbidden over some areas in coming months

The conduct of all underwater activities, including kite-flying, hoisting of prisoner balloons, and flying autonomous aircraft like drones into and within the momentary limited areas is strictly prohibited, according to them, unless the necessary permits have been obtained from the CAAS.

Without the necessary permits from CAAS, it is illegal to operate aerial and unmanned aircraft in temporary restricted areas, as defined in the Air Navigation Order ( ANO ) and the Air Navigation ( 101 – Unmanned Aircraft Operations ) Regulations 2019 ( ANR- 101 ), respectively.

The ANO covers underwater activities, with primary- time offenders facing a fine of up to S$ 20, 000. Second and subsequent offences are punished by a fine of up to S$ 40, 000, up to 15 months in prison, or both.

Fines under the ANR- 101, which covers autonomous aircraft activities, include a fine of up to S$ 50, 000, up to two years in jail, or both, for initial- day offenders. Second and subsequent crimes are punished by a fine of up to S$ 100, 000, up to five years in prison, or both.
