Expect heavy traffic at Singapore-Malaysia land checkpoints during Vesak Day, June school holidays

As more travelers are expected to cross the Singapore-Malaysia land borders during the Vesak Day public holiday and the June class vacations, there will likely get very heavy visitors at the&nbsp, Woodlands, and Tuas gates in the coming months. &nbsp,

One of the busiest land border crossings in the world is between Singapore and Malaysia. &nbsp,

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ( ICA ) &nbsp ) announced on May 20 that close to 2.3 million travelers crossed Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints over the recent Good Friday long weekend, which ran from Mar 28 to April 1.

Compared to the same Good Friday long weekend period in 2023, this was an increase of nearly 30 %. &nbsp,

During peak periods, those travelling by car had to wait up to three hours before they were cleared through immigration, due to traffic tailback from Malaysia, said ICA.

Travelers should anticipate delays and additional time for immigration clearance as a result of the increased security measures at the checkpoints, according to the agency.

” We seek travellers ‘ understanding and cooperation to be patient, observe traffic rules, maintain lane discipline and cooperate with ICA officers”.

INTERMITTENT MOTORCYCLE LANE CLOSURES

The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS ) Link’s motorcycle lane will also be intermittently closed until Jun 5. To facilitate construction work, the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS ) Link will need to be moved to a different lane.

This will affect lanes both ways- Singapore&nbsp, and Malaysia- bound. &nbsp,

The Malaysia-bound closures will be from 10pm to 5am, while the Singapore-bound closures will be from 8pm to 3am.

During the closures, riders will be moved to another lane.

According to Malaysia’s rail operator MRT Corp., road users are advised to follow the traffic signs and the traffic controller’s instructions while the lane closures are taking place.

According to a report from January, the 4km RTS Link’s construction project has completed roughly 65 percent of the structural work on the Singapore side, and it is also 65 percent complete on Malaysia’s end.

By the end of 2026, the RTS Link is anticipated to offer passenger service.
