SCDF regular who died after fighting tanker blaze remembered for selflessness, passion for work

SINGAPORE: &nbsp, Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) honoured Captain Kenneth Tay Xue Qin with a ceremonial last call early on Monday ( May 20 ) morning.

The weather forced the meeting indoors. At the multi-purpose house of the SCDF offices, about 200 SCDF staff were present as they honored CPT Tay with a “last fire call.”

A “last fireplace call” is symbolised by the feeling of fire visit sirens across SCDF’s 23 fire channels, including its offices, department headquarters and Civil Defence Academy. &nbsp,

CPT Tay, 30, passed away in the early days of May 16 while serving in the military. He was a member of the first response team for a fire that broke out in a China-flagged ship anchoring in Singapore lakes in the motor room.

He went unconscious while he was on the fleet, and he was taken to a hospital where he was later declared dead.
