The former head of the state’s Department of Special Investigation ( DSI) has been ordered to seize 44.6 million baht of Tarit Pengdit’s assets by the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct cases.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission ( NACC), led by NACC secretary-general Niwatchai Kasemmongkol, said this was Tarit’s second unusual wealth case, which involved him, who has been detained at Klong Prem Prison since last year.
The first event was in 2017, in which authorities seized at least 341 million baht of property owned by Tarit, his family Wassamon, his brother Piyaruek Atthakarnrat, Piyathanawat Co, a business owned by Mr Piyaruek, Kanda Phuedchanthuek, who is Ms Wassamon’s girl, and Sonchai Srithongkul.
The following case, said Mr Niwatchai, came after the NACC decided to needle further into Tarit’s excessive wealth. Tarit’s source of wealth was not immediately identified, but the investigation revealed that he had at least 53.5 million baht in resources. It also found another people were involved with Tarit’s property property, including Ms Wassamon, who had some of her property under the name Wanthana Pipatchaiyasiri. Additionally, these people were seizing their possessions.
The investigation resulted in the judge’s decision to seize 44.6 percent of the 53.5 million baht that the NACC’s complaint included. Four real estate properties and three vehicles belonging to Tarit were among the seized property.
Tarit left the civil service in 2017 because of his exceedingly rich past at DSI.
According to Mr. Niwatchai, he was given two times ‘ confinement for wrongdoing after badly pursuing crime charges against former prime minister Abhisit Vejiva and former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban for their management of political violence in 2010.
