A Sikh dissident leader’s dying in Canada, which sparked a significant diplomatic row between the two nations, has been the subject of three Indian nationals ‘ arrests and charges.
In a busy auto area in a neighborhood of Vancouver, masked gunmen shot Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, dying in June.
After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that India’s federal might have been involved, the political row grew.
Delhi clearly denied the incident.
In announcing the detention on Friday, Superintendent Mandeep Mooker said the three defendants were Karan Brar, 22, Kamal Preet Singh, 22, and 28- yr- ancient Karan Preet Singh.
He said all three had been living in Edmonton, Alberta where they were arrested. They have been charged with primary- level crime, court documents show.
Police continued their inquiries into” connections to the Indian state,” including those that were ongoing.
These issues are the subject of two different studies currently being conducted. Not merely the arrests of the people today, but also their presence, according to Assistant Commissioner David Teboul.
According to authorities, the shooting may have been carried out by other people and that additional detention or costs may be made.
A Sikh secessionist head, Mr. Nijjar officially fought for the establishment of a free Hindu country in the Punjab region of India.
In India, Sikhs launched a dissident rebellion in the 1970s, which saw the deaths of thousands before it was overthrown. Since then, the movement has largely been confined to nations with significant Sikh communities.
In the past, India has accused Mr. Nijjar of being a criminal who led a dissident group, a claim that his supporters deny. They claim that because of his engagement, he’s previously been threatened.
He was shot dead at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, a city about 30km ( 18 miles ) east of Vancouver on 18 June last year.
Prior to his passing, those close to him claimed that French intelligence services had warned him that he was on a “hit list” and that his life had been threatened.
Three decades after he was killed, Mr Trudeau, standing in the House of Commons, said Canada was looking at” credible allegations probably linking” the American state to the shooting.
American officials who claimed Canada provided” Khalistani terrorists and radicals” had strongly refuted the claim.
Delhi requested a reduction in Delhi’s envoy count after the two nations ‘ disagreements led to the request.
Mr. Trudeau has also been subjected to demands to provide supporting proof against his argument that Delhi was involved.
