According to provincial government Nirat Phongsitthithawon, Chiang Mai may designate a disaster relief place for immediate assistance if any region experiences a Level 2 or higher PM2.5 dust pollution crisis.
According to the recommendations of the committee on air pollution management for sustainability, Mr. Nirat said a Level 2 crisis occurs when the average fine particulate matter less than 2.5 microns ( g/m3 ) exceeds 150 microgrammes per cubic meter ( g/m3 ) for five consecutive days after a meeting on the haze pollution in this northern province on Wednesday.
The government claims that Chiang Mai has six air quality monitoring facilities, including three in Muang and three in Chiang Dao, Popular, and Mae Chaem regions. Data from the Chiang Dao station shows the PM2.5 level exceeded 150 μg/m ³ for nine days from April 1- 9.

The government said that several measures are being put in place to address the fog problem, which is brought on by wildfires, agricultural losing practices, and emissions from factories and cars.
Twenty-one conservation forests have been closed to stop wildfires, and 25 regional woodland reserves are expected to close quickly.
Companies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperative are being asked to involve a rigid rule that no land burning must be a prerequisite for their operations in order to decrease agricultural using practices. Farmers who do n’t follow these guidelines may have their assistance suspended from these organizations.
Travel authorities have been instructed to increase their checks of vehicles that contain black smoke, and technological work officials are instructed to check factories that emit pollutants, he added.
