New ‘Silver Guardians’ volunteers to help fellow seniors as part of Age Well SG initiative

As part of a nationwide initiative to help seniors time earnestly, a new volunteer program called Silver Guardians has been launched in Singapore.

The most recent program is Age Also SG’s fifth component, with the other three being enhancements to living conditions, transportation options, and expanding programs for seniors to stay connected.

Age Also SG, which replaces Healthier SG, was announced in August 2023 and was introduced in November of that year.

In his resources talk in February, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong stated that the government will also set off S$ 3.5 billion over the next ten years for initiatives under Age Well SG.

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung made the most recent initiative at the Presbyterian Community Services Esther Active Ageing Centre on Friday ( Apr 5 ).

Seniors may encounter a sense of loss article- retirement, Mr Ong said, adding that this void had been filled by&nbsp, volunteerism, even if it is not a&nbsp, complete substitute for work.

The Agency for Integrated Care ( AIC ) has recruited thousands of seniors as volunteers, known as Silver Generation Ambassadors. These volunteers are now monitoring and connecting seniors with appropriate government programs in their homes and community areas.

Silver Guardians, a new charity program that was introduced on Friday, will enhance Silver Generation Ambassadors ‘ work, according to Mr. Ong.

The new Silver Guardians will assist in the implementation of activities at &nbsp, Active Ageing Centres ( AAC ), and &nbsp, such as making friends with older people, as well as organizing and leading activities at the AACs.
