Popular Hock Kee Fried Kway Teow stall closed for good after owner dies at age 69

Sad information for ash kway teow fans the stalls behind common stall&nbsp, Hock Kee Fried Kway Teow&nbsp, at Berseh Food Centre has died. He was 69 years older.

Song Yancheng, affectionately known as Uncle Song, was known for properly frying his ash kway teow dish by plate while his customers patiently waited for the black, sultry, wok hei-laden kway teow piled with eggs, bean sprouts, and body cockles.

Aunt Song’s children, who run his stall’s Twitter page, announced his departure on the app, along with the information that Hock Kee may be closed for great.

The notice stated:” We are very sorry to inform you that ( Hock Kee Fried Kway Teow ) had its final day of operation on March 18. Our father passed away on March 18 after serving his final dish of kway teow.

No reason was given for Uncle Song’s suicide. His family is already hosting a five-day wakeup call for him at 388A Bukit Batok West Ave. They opted not to be interviewed by 8 days. sg, though an earlier Facebook update shared the wake details, and that “our dad ( 宋炎成, 1955- 2024 ) has passed away peacefully late last night”.

Hock Kee Fried Kway Teow, which is said to have been a rickshaw, was run by Uncle Song’s mother-in-law before he took over. Before moving to Berseh Food Centre in 2015, he upgraded his rides functions to a cafe stall at Mian Alwi Road.

On social media, messages of condolence from Uncle Song’s patrons, some of whom had grown up eating his food, flooded in. N G YL Mike, a person on Facebook, described his wonderful dining experience at Uncle Song’s kiosk, which typically had long lines.

He&nbsp, wrote&nbsp, in gourmet group You Eat! I must be really lucky ( Hock Kee ) to be the first customer of this established ole school Hock Kee Char Kway Teow stall, when he happened to be at the stall just before it opened!

” The stall ( shutter ) was down when I arrived !.. then it suddenly burst open little to my happiness! Up came Ah Hock.. walking past me to go to the relaxation place! Waiting patiently for his return paid off, and he then proceeded to cook the first plate of his day’s heritage satisfaction!

” Fragrance, savoury n not too sweet… the kway teow dish was fried to magnificent beauty with the traditional ingredients… pork fat, cockles, Chinese bacon, etc… You was n’t request for more with this appetite satisfying dinner!”
