A new division will be established under the Courts of Justice ( CoJ) to handle situations involving specific computer and engineering crimes.
The new section will increase the Criminal Court’s effectiveness in handling such cases, according to a CoJ news released on Monday on the Royal Gazette site.
As part of that, the new computer and engineering crime section will also help law enforcement in immediate operations, according to the announcement.
Violence involving computer systems has become much more complicated and rapid- growing, said the CoJ declaration, on why the new department is needed.
The information in these offences is typically in digital form, which calls for special skills, particularly when obtaining and gathering it for use in court proceedings, the statement said.
Additionally, the new section is anticipated to expedite the approval of court warrants in order to provide authorities looking to stop cybercrime.
The new department will solve all legal cases involving laptop technology in a criminal, aside from those that primarily concern the Criminal Court’s Narcotics and Human Trafficking Divisions.
According to the statement, the new section is also in charge of handling petitions for court orders filed with the Criminal Court in connection with an alleged violation of the computer violence law, the private information protection law, and the cyber security protection law.
The head of the technology crime division will be appointed a criminal judge.
This new division will employ additional judges with solid experience handling technology crime cases, according to the statement.
