SINGAPORE: A person, who described herself in court as “hot- tempered”, was jailed for three months on Thursday ( Mar 14 ) for swinging a knife at her father and threatening him in front of their young children.
Lu Ut Em, 33, was also fined S$ 2, 000 ( US$ 1, 500 ) with one day’s jail in default. She admitted to threatening her husband and two criminal intimidation matters.
The Asian woman, who appeared in court via video connection from her position of remand, originally objected repeatedly to the lawyer’s frame of the charges.
Lu maintained that she did not point the knife at her father despite being confronted with videos of her pointing it at him in front of their young children and other friends.
Instead, she just swung it at him, she claimed through an interpreter.
She also objected to a second accusation, saying she threatened to kill her husband by saying,” I want you to bleed.”
She claimed she had used a Mandarin word that meant “bleed” after watching a movie picture of the event. When asked what she meant, she said” I do n’t know”.
She finally entered a guilty plea only after the trial changed the information to indicate that she had threatened to stab her father with the word “bleed” and swung the knife at him.
THE Event
The jury heard that Lu was married to the sufferer, a 61- year- ancient Taiwanese man.
They shared a level in Teck Whye with their two children, ages three and five, as well as the boy’s mother, nephew, and sister-in-law.
On Dec 2, 2023, Lu was home with her father and other friends.
She raised her voice at her father because she was angry with him. She frequently aimed the kitchen knife at the person while shouting at him while doing the same.
The gentleman did not appear to be retaliating in judge videotape, where his wife had snarled and screeched all the way.  ,
As the assault continued, the two youngsters sat in or sat around the living room, and their mother was also on hand.
At one place, when the defendant’s nephew intervened, Lu turned her anger on him, frequently gesturing toward him with a jabbing movements until he retreated to the house.  ,
Lu raised the blade at one place and threatened her husband, saying “bleed” in Mandarin, the prosecutors said, reading from the speech of information.
On the film website at this point, Lu could be seen smiling to herself.  ,
The target used a helicopter to defend himself during the incident and hoped to avert his wife’s knife-sharp reaction.
She was unaffected, and he returned the heli before going into the apartment to stop the situation from getting worse.
Lu was called down by the police, who then made an arrest.
Ryan Lim, the deputy public attorney, requested a three to four-month sentence and a good for Lu.
He claimed that the husband’s use of a weapon was a risky move and that there was a clear goal to be alarmed.
There were also other community members around, including two young children.
The accused’s altercation successfully drove the prey out of his own house, said Mr Lim.
There was another tragedy in February 2024, which Lu was remanded, and this one was not the only one.
JUDGE QUESTIONS HER
In prevention, Lu said:” I’m very sorry for what I have done. Please give me a prospect. Instead of going to prison, I would prefer to pay a fine. I want to take care of my kid when I return home.
District Judge Eddy Tham questioned Lu,” How will you make sure that you will never resort to such harsh actions the next time you get angry and lose your temper?”
Lu responded:” Because I’m very sizzling- tempered. That’s why I did so. Besides that, I am quite Alright”.
The prosecutor explained to Lu that conflicts and conflict are inevitable in family life and cohabiting.
He inquired if she was telling him that she would repeat her deeds because she was temperamental.
Lu replied:” I will not do it once, your honour. I try my best to manage myself”.
Judge Tham informed her that this was particularly true when the couple had younger children.
When you are armed with a knife, it’s surprising to see the younger children running around. You do n’t know how psychologically you will react when you witness such acts at home, he said.
” Yes, they were afraid”, replied Lu.
Judge Tham instructed her to consider her coming children when she becomes angry or upset so she could exercise better control and restraint.
Lu repeatedly claimed that she was furious when she did it.
” We’re not saying you never get angry”, replied the judge. We’re saying that you need to exercise self-control after being unhappy and to find other ways to control your anger.
He promised to speak with her through a courtroom advisor.
