According to an official on Monday ( Mar 11 ), the death toll from flash flooding and landslides on the Indonesian island of Sumatra has increased to 26, with at least 11 people still missing.
The crisis in West Sumatra state, where streams overflowed and homes were destroyed by landslides, was brought on by heavy rains on Thursday.
According to Abdul Muhari, spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency,” Eleven people are still missing while 26 others have been found dead.”
According to Fajar Sukma, a representative from West Sumatra’s hazard reduction firm, 23 people were found dead and six were also missing in the city of Pesisir Selatan.
In Padang Pariaman city, which also suffered significant damage, three more victims were discovered dead.
Severe weather and poor energy have hindered rescue efforts, according to Sukma.

Indonesia is vulnerable to floods during the rainy season, and forest has made the issue worse in some places, with prolonged heavy rainfall causing flooding in some parts of the island.
In December, a flood and floods swept away dozens of homes and ruined a hotel close to Lake Toba in Sumatra, killing at least two people.
