S$571,000 lost to e-commerce concert ticket scams since January; most cases involved Taylor Swift shows

Since January, at least S$ 571, 000 ( US$ 427, 000 ) have been lost to e-commerce scams involving concert tickets in Singapore, with the majority involving Taylor Swift’s performances.

At least 1, 241 patients were allegedly cheated after they discovered “tickets” for sales on websites like Telegram, X, Facebook, Carousell, and Xiaohongshu, according to the&nbsp, officers on Thursday. &nbsp,

Following a new police activity conducted between February 26 and March 5, a total of 45 individuals are being looked into for their possible participation in these scams&nbsp. &nbsp,

The&nbsp, 25 gentlemen and 20 ladies, between the ages of 17 and 57, supposedly facilitated the crimes in various ways, according to preliminary investigations. &nbsp,

The majority of them either opened fresh bank accounts or gave away their old ones to cybercriminals.

Some supposedly applied for phony jobs, loans, or false trading accounts using their Singpass or banking credentials. Instead, they were phished and used to steal their qualifications.

According to the authorities, “one of them allegedly attempted to work on a job that required him to collect and transfer funds through his bank account for a fee as high as S$ 60.” &nbsp,
