Special education teachers to get pay rise of up to 12%, teacher aides’ salaries to increase

Starting this year, teachers and teacher aides in special education, or SPED, schools will see increases in pay, according to the Ministry of Education ( MOE ) announcement on Monday ( Mar 4). &nbsp,

Teachers will receive a pay increase of up to 12 %, while teacher assistants will receive a 15 % lift. The government may gradually increase its cash for schools, and the pay raise may start in 2024 and 2026.

By 2026, SPED teachers can anticipate making between S$ 3, 000 ( US$ 2, 200 ) and more than S$ 7, 000 per month. This may cost between S$ 2, 000 and through S$ 4, 000 for professor assistants. &nbsp,

Starting salaries for these instructors will also increase by up to 15 % and those for teacher aides by up to 17 % starting salaries starting this year. &nbsp,

A-Levels or a certification are the minimum educational requirements for Rushed teachers. Those who lack special education training must first complete a training placement at a SPED school and then enroll in a certificate program in special education, which is completely funded by the government.

Before the Rushed certificate program, their regular starting pay, according to the Education Ministry, may be up to S$ 3, 600, depending on their experience and skills. This is an raise from the current S$ 620 to S$$ 3,120.

According to the government, it is recommended that SPED schools increase the salaries of their teachers once the certificate program is over, in order to recognize their improved abilities and qualifications. &nbsp,

As opposed to the current starting salary of S$ 1, 720, teachers may assume a starting salary of up to S$ 2, 100 per month. They are not required to enroll in the certification program. &nbsp,

Around 36, 000 individuals in Singapore needed special education as of December 2023. 8 000 students attend SPED schools, or 20 %. &nbsp,

The department said,” The adjustments and the announcements this time reflect our efforts to not just recognize but also keep good labor in SPED.” &nbsp,

Additionally, it stated that it is attempting to close the salary gap between qualified and unqualified Rushed teachers. Nearly 1,700 teachers work in 25 Rushed schools, and more than half of them have degrees.

By 2030, MOE wants to increase the number of Rushed professors by 350 to satisfy student needs. &nbsp,

According to Second Minister for Education Maliki Osman, who spoke in parliament on Monday, the salary increases will depend on individuals ‘ prevailing wages, as well as their experience, talents, job tasks, and job performance.
