‘Drop lanes’ to relieve congestion

Taxi drivers dropping off passengers at Don Mueang airport will be required to use “passenger drop lanes” starting on March 1 in an effort to deal with heavy traffic outside of the entrances to the airport’s Terminal 2.

The measure is part of the Transport Ministry’s effort to improve passengers’ experience through the nation’s largest low-carrier hub, which is expected to see a jump in passenger numbers over the Songkran holiday period.

The move, the ministry said, will ease the heavy congestion in front of Terminal 2, which serves domestic flights.

Taxis carrying passengers who require special assistance will be exempt from the rule, but they will be directed to Gate 5 at Terminal 1, which is right before Terminal 2.

Vehicles carrying airport and/or airline personnel will still be allowed to drop off their passengers right at the gate.

Private vehicles can also use the passenger drop lanes to drop their passengers if they want to avoid heavy traffic in front of Terminal 2.

To improve traffic flow, help staff will be tasked to provide 24/7 support to passengers at gates 16 and 17, right in front of the passenger drop lanes.
