Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited royal initiative projects in Chiang Mai on Saturday, as part of the government’s plan to promote Thailand’s agricultural trade and empower local farmers.
Mr Srettha was joined by top-rank state officials and corporate executives from the private sector.
The delegation included Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Thai Trade Representative Chayotid Kridakonm, national police chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, Central Investigation Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, the 3rd Army commander, as well as 115 representatives from the private sector, government agency and high-ranking state officials.
“I believe in the potential of Thailand. We have so many skilful people who are also very energetic. It’s a good sign that we have come to meet here today,” said Mr Srettha.
During the tour, the Prime Minister said commerce aviation can play a significant role in the country’s development, adding that on March 1, he will announce plans for Thailand to become the aviation hub of the region.
The group also visited an exhibition at Mae Kuang Udom Thara dam operation and a maintenance project in Doi Saket district.
The premier offered advice to farmers in terms of product development and market value upgrades, with a firm nod to community and OTOP products.
They also listened to the problems of farmers, especially their experience with Food and Drug Administrative (FDA) licences needed to push community products to the global market — as some products are in high demand by foreigners.
Such products could not be exported due to the complexities of the licensing procedure.
The premier conveyed his thanks to agencies from all sectors for their cooperation in regard to the royal initiative projects and for taking the time to learn the pain points of local residents concerning marketing issues.
“I hope this trip will help widen the opportunities for you to access the global market and all people,” he said to the farmers.
