A day before the state goes to the polls, there have been reports of a string of burning attacks in Bangladesh.

A passenger train was allegedly set on fire on Friday, leading to the torching of a Buddhist temple and the attack of merchandise trucks on an important national highway.

According to a local media review, there have been at least fourteen arson incidents in the past few hours.

The majority of opposition parties are abstaining from the election, in which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to win a third straight phrase.

According to the police, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( BNP )’s Nabiullah Niabi, a well-known opposition politician, and six other party activists have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the central Dhaka commuter train fire that killed at least four passengers on Friday.

Eight individuals have also been critically injured, according to Samanta Lal Sen, a senior official at the Dhaka doctor caring for the victims of the fire.

According to nearby press, an attack occurred early on Saturday at the Kaikhon Buddhist temple in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar.

The BNP, the main opposition party, has declared a two-day hit nationwide and asked voters to abstain from voting.

The BNP has been charged by the ruling Awami League with attempting to sabotage the election by launching a “reign of evil on innocent people.”
