According to official statistics, 212 people were killed and 1,860 people were injured in New Year’s trip highway accidents, both numbers significantly lower than last year.

The dying and harm burden came from 1, 839 traffic accidents between December 29 and January 2, inclusive, according to Chakree Bamrungwong, an assistant to the Department of Land Transport.

At 15, Bangkok suffered the most fatalities, followed by 69 incidents and 73 injuries in Kanchanaburi territory.

The burden decreased from last year, according to the Royal Thai Police Office. The number of accidents decreased by 6.17 %, injuries&nbsp by 3.43, and fatalities by 23.9 %.

Speeding was the leading cause of traffic accidents during the holiday season, accounting for 40.60 % of all accidents, followed by drivers cutting-in ( 23.31 % ), and drink driving ( 44.29 % ).

68.85 % of those killed or injured, according to the officers, were not wearing crash hats or safety belts. 87 % of all traffic fatalities during that time period involved riders.
