A group of MPs led by Dech-it Khaothong, a Democrat MP for Songkhla, attempted to oppose acting deputy leader Narapat Kaewthhong’s leadership bid after receiving objections from some lawmakers, according to an official party source on Wednesday.
Instead, they urged Chalermchai Sri-on, the opposition Democrat Party’s standing secretary-general, to take over as party leader before the party general assembly on Saturday to choose a new leader and executive committee members, according to the source.
According to the cause, they thought Mr. Chalermchai may aid in the party’s unification.
A novel group leader may be elected monday following a command vacuum that has lasted for several decades, according to Chaichana Detdecho, acting assistant Democrat secretary-general.
Mr. Chaichana stated that all certified gathering members have the right to get nominated for the best position and that there will be enough members to join the quorum in support of the leadership vote.
Every group member has an equal opportunity to run for office in the management race because the Democrat Party is a social organization, he claimed.
No one is aware in advance who will be chosen as the new group leader because the group is not owned by any specific person, according to Mr. Chaichana.
Mr. Chaichana even downplayed information that he would be chosen as the group’s fresh secretary-general, claiming that his decision to run had not yet been made.
He emphasized that the new party leader must work to regain party cohesion, develop policies to address the nation’s financial problems, and push for decentralization.
