Philippines names pro-Islamic State militants in Catholic mass bombing

MANILA: In the nation’s insurgency-torn south, two Filipino members of a militant group that supports the Islamic State were identified by Spanish police on Wednesday, December 6, as potential suspects.

The assault on worshippers gathered inside a school gyms in Marawi, the largest Muslim city in the nation and the target of militant besiegement in 2017, resulted in four fatalities and 50 injuries.

The attack, which President Ferdinand Marcos attributed to “foreign jihadists,” was claimed by the Islamic State group.

The military has described the abuse as a potential retaliation strike for their businesses against militant groups in the area, and police recently claimed they were pursuing four people in connection with it.

Authorities regional director Brigadier General Allan Nobleza stated at a news conference that Kadapi Mimbesa and Arsani Membiso, the two offenders named on Wednesday, belonged to the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute team.

According to Nobleza, a fourth person who is still unnamed kept an eye out for the assailants.
