MANILA: According to local authorities, a bus carrying dozens of people in the Philippines lost its brakes on Wednesday ( Dec. 6 ) and slammed into cliff in Antique’s central province, killing at least 16 people.
According to Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao of DZRH radio station, eight patients were in important issue in hospitals and four were secure.
Compared to the 28 reported incidents earlier in local advertising, there were fewer confirmed deaths.
On Tuesday evening, the passenger vehicle from the Iloilo province was traveling to the city of Culasi in Antique when, according to Cadiao, its brakes failed on a winding road, causing it to fall 30 meters down into the ravine.
That region is known as the predator curve. The next van to fall off there had already done so, Cadiao continued.
The provincial government of Antique announced on Instagram that all apparent bodies on the scene had already been retrieved, which put an end to recovery efforts.
It added that it was still unknown how many people there were in full, which was initially thought to be 53.
The Philippines is renowned for its weak road maintenance and public transport regulations.
