SINGAPORE: A cleaner deceived a friend into thinking she could handle work force and employment programs for the company where she had been hired.
The victim was tricked into giving S$ 5, 000 ( US$ 3, 700 ) as a result, only to discover that the job openings were fake.  ,
Jayanthi Subramaniam, a 31-year-old Malaysian, admitted guilt to one count of cheating on Tuesday ( Dec 5 ) and was imprisoned for six weeks.  ,
The jury learned that Jayanthi had been employed in Singapore on a work permit in 2021 after meeting an American national who was 31 years old through TikTok.
The two communicated via phone calls, writings, and voice messaging even though they rarely met in person.  ,
Jayanthi encountered economic difficulties in August of this year and was unable to pay back her money.
She came up with a plan to defraud her companions by offering them fictitious jobs. She was working for DHL Singapore at the time as a cleaner.  ,
On August 29, Jayanthi informed the man that she was employed by DHL Singapore and that there were employment opportunities that for foreign workers.  ,
Despite the fact that she was not employed by DHL Singapore and there were no such employment opportunities, she offered to send the work go force applications. She even offered to submit applications for job passes.  ,
Two persons were suggested for the work by the man after he spoke with another colleague.  ,
The job move and work apps were then processed by Jayanthi for S$ 5, 000 each. The large amount of money involved made the man cautious.
Despite his reservations, Jayanthi was able to persuade him by sending him pictures and videos of DHL Singapore’s facilities, demonstrating the legitimacy of the employment opportunities.  ,
She declared that she would take S$ 2,500 as a payment from each individual. In the end, the gentleman made arrangements for Jayanthi’s institution account to receive a total of S$ 5, 000.
Jayanthi then made an attempt to ask for more money but was unsuccessful after the man demanded official documents. She then started to make mistakes regarding the alleged employment opportunities.
On October 1, the gentleman reported it to the police.  ,
Three days later, Jayanthi was taken into custody. She had already used the funds for personal bills and debt repayment by that point. Since then, she has made reparation of S$ 5,000,000.  ,
She explained to the jury that she was a single mother who was caring for two young children while also being ill and on treatment.
She requested to be sent home and vowed never to commit” such a blunder again.” She likewise pleaded for not to be imprisoned.  ,
The amount involved, according to District Judge Cheng Yuxi , was” not negligible.”  ,
The judge remarked,” You also took photos of the DHL office facilities to support your deception when the sufferer expressed doubts.”  ,
The prosecutor took into account Jayanthi’s single command, prompt admission of guilt, clean record, a , and total compensation.  ,
Jayanthi could have been fined and served up to ten years in prison for cheating.  ,
