SEOUL: Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has urged action to combat the nation’s declining birth rates, referring to the issue as “everyones housekeeping,” according to KCNA on Monday ( Dec 4).
Kim said this on Sunday at a mother ‘ day celebration in Pyongyang.
We must take care of all of our housekeeping responsibilities while working with mothers, according to Kim, including preventing a drop in birth prices and providing quality care.
According to the United Nations Population Fund, North Korea’s fertility rate, or the average number of children born to a female, stood at 1.8 as of 2023, following an expanded decline in the rate over the previous few decades.
Despite some of North Korea’s neighbors experiencing a similar upward tendency, the fertility rate is still higher there.
