Groom kills bride, kin at reception

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A man went on a shooting rampage on his wedding day, killing four people, including the bride, and seriously injuring one other before turning the gun on himself on Saturday evening, police said yesterday.

The incident took place at 11.25pm on Saturday, at a house in Wang Nam Khieo district where the wedding party for Chaturong Suksuk, 29, and Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44, was being held.

Chaturong, a former paramilitary ranger, wed Kanchana, who was 15 years older than him, in a traditional ceremony earlier in the day.

The couple had lived together for three years before deciding to tie the knot, police said.

Later in the evening, the couple held a wedding banquet, which was attended by their friends and relatives.

Several people who attended the party told investigators that Chaturong did not look happy at the wedding party.

Guests said Chaturong abruptly left the party to go to his car, only to return soon after with a gun in his hand.

He then began shooting at the party, killing the bride, the bride’s mother, Kingthong Klajoho, 62, sister, Kornnipa Manato, 38 and a guest, Thong Nonkhunthod, 50.

Another guest, Bamrung Chatherat, 28, was seriously injured in the attack.

Witnesses said Chaturong then turned the gun on himself. He died instantly from the shot.

Wang Nam Khieo Police were called to the scene, and Mr Bamrung, the injured man, was taken by first responders to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police were investigating to find the motive for the killings.
