According to acting director-general of the Department of Employment Somchai Morakotsriwan, visa application and improvement charges for migrant workers from neighboring Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam may be reduced to 500 baht starting on November 11.

According to Mr. Somchai, the price changes went into effect on November 11 and became effective for four years after being announced by the Labour Ministry in the Royal Gazette on October 27.

This came in response to a government resolution on October 3 that Phiphat Ratchakitprakan, the minister of labor, had put forth. It was an agreement on the cooperation of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and other countries in the area’s labor employment.

Beginning on November 11, the price for applying for a visa may be reduced from 2, 000 baht to 500 baht, each of which is valid for two years. Additionally, the cost of an extension will decrease from 1, 900 bahatt and be applied for an additional two-year period.

According to Mr. Somchai, the lower fees were meant to allow workers to reduce expenses and aid in economic recovery.
