Singapore’s former President Halimah Yacob awarded nation’s highest civilian honour

SINGAPORE: The highest civilian honor in Singapore, the Order of Temasek( With High Distinction ), has been bestowed upon past president Halimah Yacob.

The Prime Minister’s Office( PMO) announced on Wednesday( Oct 25 ) that Madam Halimah would be presented with the honor by Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the National Awards Investiture on Sunday.

The seventh chairman of Singapore, Madam Halimah, is at the top of the list of National Award winners this year.

Dr. Tony Tan, Mr. S. R. Nathan, and another former president of Singapore have also received similar honors.

The highest amount of what is referred to as the Darjah Utama Temasek was also bestowed upon former Chief Justice Yong Pung How, past Chairman S Dhanabalan, and former Deputy Prime Minister S Jayakumar.

The honor was first offered in 1962 and has three levels: Order of Temasek( With High Distinction ), Order for Temas, and Order to Temale. According to PMO’s website, the honor has been offered since 1962. & nbsp,

Just Singaporeans may get admitted to the Order, with non-Singaporeans only permitted in exceptional circumstances.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the president of Indonesia, was one such victim. He received the Order of Temasek’s highest grade in 2014 for his work on regional cooperation and the close diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The Star of Temasek, a decoration given only to Singaporean members of the Armed Forces, Singapore Police Force, or Singapore Civil Defence Force & nbsp for” acts of exceptional courage and skill” or” conspicuous devotion to duty in circumstances of extreme danger ,” according to PMO, is second in prestige to the Order. & nbsp,
