Bangladesh: Goods train collides with passenger train killing 17

According to specialists, two trains collided in southeast Bangladesh, and at least 17 people died and numerous people were injured.

In Bhairab, 80 km( 50 miles ) north-east of Dhaka, on Monday afternoon, a freight train crashed into the rear coaches of another passenger train.

A rail official who requested anonymity told BBC Bengali that the incident was probably caused by a transmission error.

Train accidents are common in Bangladesh because of the subpar equipment.

Following Monday’s incident at the Jagannathpur road crossing, which resulted in the overturning of three vehicles, fourteen people on board the passenger station known as the Egarsindhur Twilight died on the scene, according to BBC Bengali. There were at least two tutors destroyed.

” After the incident, many individuals became trapped within. The majority of the victims passed away instantly, according to Mohammad Masud, the captain of nearby fire service, who told reporters.

At the hospital, where roughly 50 injured people are receiving treatment, three more people passed away. As recovery efforts continue, the death toll may increase, Anowar Hossain, director of the Dhaka Railway Police, told investigators.

Before rescue team arrived at the post, citizens had stepped forward to assist the people, according to a nearby state official who spoke with the BBC.

Hospital staff needed help from local medical facilities because they were having trouble handling the influx of injured patients.

The cause of the accident has been the subject of a proper analysis by Nepalese authorities.

Previous accidents have been attributed to transmission error, poor track conditions, and unattended rail crossings.

A freight train and a passenger train headed for Dhaka collided in Comilla, north of Bhairab, in April, causing some injuries. A message failure was also attributed to that accident.
